Best Management Practices University of Florida | Other University and Government Sites
University of Florida Citrus BMP Program website - Maintained by the Indian River Citrus BMP Implementation Team at the University of Florida. The Indian River Citrus BMP Site - Includes the complete BMP manual for Indian River Citrus Groves and related information. Nitrogen BMP for Citrus - "The overall objective of this project is to develop best management practice for the fertilization of bearing and non-bearing citrus trees to minimize nitrate contamination of groundwater without adversely affecting the fruit production...." Spray Applications to Citrus: Survey of Current Practices in the Indian River Area - Foliar sprays are used to control many important pests in the Indian River citrus growing region. While fruit grown for processing may only require one or two sprays each year, fresh market citrus typically receives additional sprays to reduce fruit blemishes. Spray Applications to Citrus: Overview of Factors Influencing Spraying Efficacy and Off-target Deposition - Foliar sprays are routinely applied in commercial citrus production. Low fruit value and concern about potential surface water contamination in the Indian River region have encouraged more careful evaluation of spray practices. Many factors influence spray results, making it challenging to distill research information into practical recommendations. Aquatic Plants BMP - "This site is a collection of Best Management Practices that are directed at enhancing and protecting the water resources of the Indian River Lagoon and St. Lucie Estuary Watersheds..."
Other Universities & Research Institutions (Links to Non-University of Florida/IFAS sites are provided as a service and do not imply endorsement of information or products) Integrated Pest Management - "This publication is meant to provide a basic understanding of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) for individuals interested in agriculture at all levels...." Effluent Limitations Guidelines, Pretreatment Standards - "This proposed regulation establishes technology-based limits for the discharge of pollutants into waters of the United States and into publicly owned treatment works by existing and new facilities that manufacture, maintain or rebuild finished metal parts, products or machines...."
