Brief Description of Duties

This agent is committed to effective technology transfer to ensure Florida citrus sustainability and competitiveness. His work focuses on information to increase the efficiency and profitability of industry components. He plays a crucial role in helping the industry adjust to environmental concerns. This agent provides overall leadership and coordination for the development and implementation of the commercial and dooryard citrus programs in the 5 counties (Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry, and Lee) of southwest Florida. This includes:
  • Developing and implementing expanded educational programs (seminars, workshops, training, field days) to commercial citrus producers
  • Providing technical expertise, support, and cooperation to citrus growers and answering their questions through telephone, mail, office visits, and on-site visits
  • Conducting urban citrus programs for dooryard citrus growers, general public, Master Gardeners, students, 4-H youth, and other groups in the urban areas
  • Coordinating and conducting training in farm safety including pesticide handling and use, and providing CEU credits for pesticide license renewal and certified crop advisors (CCAs)
  • Seeking professional development opportunities to keep up to date with current technologies, strategies, growth and development by attending professional conferences and in-service trainings.
